My Pod with Deep Rajah

HE MAY have made a name for himself hosting discussion show Let’s Talk on Dil Se radio, but Deep Rajah is a big music fan and has an eclectic collection of songs in his playlist. Eastern Eye got the radio presenter to choose 10 songs he loves...

Careless Whisper by George Michael: The school disco song that all the boys liked as it was a chance to slow dance with the girls! One of my first slow dances with a girl was to this song as a 14-year-old and it blew my mind.

I Just Called to Say I Love You by Stevie Wonder: A romantic song every girl wants to hear or experience sometime in their life. The timeless classic portrays the reality of roman-ce. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you’re doing, this reflects thinking about someone special and calling them.

I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith: We all have a past and this song sums up mine. It’s one of those songs that when I hear it, the world around me stops and I get transported back to a special place and time.

Something Inside So Strong by Labi Siffre: There are times in our lives where we have to keep going no matter how difficult things get. You have to find the inner-strength to carry on! This song really makes me feel I am strong and no matter what something inside me will carry me through.

Dam Mast Qalandar by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan: This qawwali has music and lyrics that send me into dreamland. It is a relaxing song that really lets me unwind. I hear it and forget the world.

Pal Pal Har Pal from Lage Raho Munna Bhai: A sweet little number drawing out the real feelings from a man and what he thinks about another lady. Showing his emotions is one of the hardest things a man can do. This song is about being truly honest about your feelings. I like this as I can relate to that.

Soni De Nakhre from Partner: Apart from being a catchy tune, the video shows the way you should never dance, and that is exactly the way I do it. A great get out of looking like a fool card for me! It’s also a sneaky way of showing how much you like someone else.

Main Shayar To Nahin from Bobby: Apparently when I was around five years old, we all went to someone’s house for dinner and I sang this song repeatedly. I kind of remember singing it, but not fully. Still it brings back the memories. It’s a song that is both romantic and popular at the same time.

Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2: The lyrics of this song are plainly from the heart and show real love for another person. This song, combined with its tune, does make you think about things. It’s soothing and helps me relax. I like to wind down in the evening listening to this.

Time to Say Goodbye (Italian Version) by Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli: Possibly one of the most beautifully sung songs of all-time. It’s one I would like played on my deathbed as it sums up everything about life. Live it, love and enjoy it, but when your time is up, it’s time to say goodbye!
