Leicester care home wins top award

A care home in Leicester celebrated a “well-deserved” win at the Great British Care Awards last month.

Asra House Residential Care Home, as part of Sanctuary Care homes, won the The Care Team Award at Birmingham’s ICC on 17 March against six other finalists from across the country.

The care home specialises in looking after residents suffering from dementia.

The accolade, presented by BBC presenter Jeremy Vine, was referred to as an “achievement of a lifetime” by Asra’s home manager Dina Dasani.

“When they announced we had won everyone just jumped up and there was a standing ovation – it was quite a shock and took a while to sink in!” she recalled.

The award is for a care team which has established a shared vision, utilising excellent communication skills whilst demonstrating an on-going commitment to the dignity and privacy of the residents they provide care for.

Dasani added: “We all work very closely with each other, our residents and their families to ensure that our residents receive the highest standards of care with kindness, and this award is testament to that. We – and most importantly our residents - are incredibly proud.”

Sanctuary Care was established in 1995 and will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
