Kalpana Chawla biopic with Priyanka Chopra is finally in the work!

It has been years since talks about a possible biopic on American-Indian astronaut Kalpana Chawla have been doing the rounds. Since the very beginning, the one name which was always associated with the project was actress Priyanka Chopra's.

While the project has yet not been announced officially, some insiders claim that the film is indeed happening. According to reports, Priyanka Chopra will not just play the titular role in the film, she will also produce it.

The actress has, reportedly, joined hands with Viacom18 to co-produce the biopic. If some reports are to be believed, Viacom wants some minor changes in the script of the film, for which they are keen on hiring a new writer.

We are sure that PC will do full justice to her character in the space adventure film. Interestingly, she is also being considered for another space film with Aamir Khan. Based on the life of astronaut Rakesh Sharma, the film is tentatively titled Salute.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra is currently busy shooting for the third instalment of her popular American show, Quantico.

  • Asura designs in the first glimpse drew criticism for looking too Western-inspired.
  • Producer Namit Malhotra compares the film's tone to Lord of the Rings and Gladiator.
Yash, who plays the demon king Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, says his portrayal was shaped by one clear goal: making the character relatable beyond Indian audiences.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, where the film was presented alongside major Hollywood releases, the actor said he worked to strip away the purely mythological reading of the role.

"I have tried to internalise the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times," Yash told Reuters.

"It is important for people to relate to him, and since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well."
