Jesse Neo Launches Gemtracks to Support Freelance Musicians

If you have been following the latest news in the music industry, you would know about DJ Jesse Neo and his entry into the tech world with the launch of his music startup, Gemtracks.

With a childhood spent learning music and eventually becoming a fulltime musician self-releasing electronic and dance beats and writing songs for publishing companies, the British-Australian singer decided to change how the industry worked.

In 2017, he created a website – which he called Gemtracks – where he listed all his unused beats for indie artists and companies to purchase. Suddenly, he was making several hundreds of dollars each day.

“I was amazed at how popular it became,” Jesse told us. “I think the reason why Gemtracks became so attractive came down to the fact once a track is sold, the track gets removed from the website and the buyer also gets the full copyright. This means the buyer can claim they were the original composer of the song and not have to pay any royalties.”

Then guided effectively by his friend, Milana Leybovich, who wanted him to open Gemtracks to the public, Jesse forged ahead to turn Gemtracks into a freelance marketplace for musicians. His inspiration came from the sheer amount of paperwork and meetings involved while he was working at a publishing company.

“One mundane task that I had to do every day was being on the phone with endless clients discussing about my next project,” Jesse states. “It got to the point I wasn’t able to spend an hour working on my music without being interrupted with another technical question from the client, such as what I meant when I told him to go back to the previous folder. I mean, how stupid does that sound?”

With the problem in mind, Gemtracks was designed to become the ultimate tool for musicians to buy and sell beats, offer their services and collaborate with each other without having to think about the legal and technical obligations. Everything from invoices, copyrights and delivery are all handled automatically.

Today, several world-known producers have already registered with Gemtracks and are currently selling their unused beats on the website. These producers include IYFFE, Beowülf and Taylor Carroll – all of whom have worked with at least one of the leading record labels. You can find most of their work under the hip hop beats genre.

Despite sounding like a platform for music experts, there is also a section dedicated to nurturing newcomers too. In fact, there is a blog filled with tutorials and guides. There is also a forum where anyone can get help from professionals.

“With the use of technology in almost every aspect of our lives, I’m so excited at what it can do for the music industry,” Jesse concluded. “It’s such an exciting time to be alive – despite all the things currently happening in the world – because so many new things are being invented and discovered everyday.”

So if you happen to be looking to buy beats, head over to Gemtracks now.
