Indian political party threatens to halt release of Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt in India: ‘Fans of Fawad Khan, traitors can go to Pakistan and watch the film’

Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt (2022) has turned out to be a massive blockbuster at the global box office. The film stars popular Pakistani actor Fawad Khan as the titular character with Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malik, and Mahira Khan also portraying important characters. The Legend of Maula Jatt is the official remake of the Pakistani classic film Maula Jatt, based on the characters and stories by Nasir Adeeb.

The Bilal Lashari directorial has emerged as the highest-grossing Pakistani film worldwide. After winning hearts in several parts of the world, the much-loved film was set to enter Indian theatres soon. The makers were planning to release the film in India on December 23, but even before their plans could materialize, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), a political party active in the Indian state of Maharashtra, has objected to the release of the Pakistani film.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Ameya Khopkar issued a statement on Friday and openly threatened that her party will not allow a Pakistani film starring a Pakistani actor to be released in India.

“Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt is planned to be released in India. The most annoying thing is that an Indian company is taking this plan forward. We will not allow this film to be released anywhere in India after Raj Sahab’s order,” Khopkar wrote in his tweet.

In another tweet, Khopkar hit out at the Indian fans of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan calling them anti-nationals and asked them to go to Pakistan to watch the film. Khopkar wrote, “Fans of Fawad Khan, traitors can go to Pakistan and watch the film.”

The Legend of Maula Jatt has been bankrolled by Lashari Films and Ammara Hikmat's Encyclopedia.

As HBO prepares to bring Harry Potter back to screens with a new television adaptation, excitement is high around the casting of Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout as the iconic trio of Harry, Hermione, and Ron. But amid the buzz, a quiet voice of caution has emerged. Chris Watson, father of original Hermione actress Emma Watson, is urging parents and the industry to tread carefully when it comes to child stardom.

Chris Watson is not speaking as a critic or industry insider but as someone who watched his daughter grow up inside a global franchise. Emma was nine when she landed the role of Hermione Granger, and what followed was a decade of public attention that reshaped her life. Her father remembers the shift vividly. “Her homework would go back to school on motorbikes,” he once said, pointing to the surreal logistics fame forced on them.

Qawwali remains popular with cross-cultural audiences, but very few get the chance to experience one of the world’s oldest music genres in its purest form. Whether it is the diluted style seen in Bollywood adaptations or fusion with contemporary sounds, the tradition is often watered down.
