Gurfateh Pirzada: Brahmastra is a very big and complicated film

Gurfateh Pirzada made his acting debut with Netflix’s Guilty. The actor is getting a lot of praise for his performance in the film. Well, before even signing Guilty, Gurfateh was roped in for Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra.

Recently, while talking to us, Gurfateh spoke about Brahmastra and called it a very big and complicated film. The actor said, “I started Brahmastra about two and a half to three years ago. It is my first big film, before that, I have done a couple of festival films. I thought my came will come out in it (Brahmastra), but Guilty happened earlier. Brahmastra has been great, it’s been like a school for me to be educated as an actor because so many days on set, plus you are working with these big actors whom you have watched on TV and admired. Just to look at them, watch them how they act, how they are in life, and what they talk on the sets; you get so much to learn. I was like a 21-year-old actor on set with Ranbir, Mr. Bachchan, Alia, and all these other people. The reason I am being admired in Guilty is only because I could spend that much of time with them.”

Brahmastra is a very big and complicated film. The amount of time it has taken Ayan to make it and he has put all the hard work he has. So, it’s been a very big learning experience, I am just thankful for that. I hope that the film does really well when it comes out,” Gurfateh added.

Brahmastra was slated to release last year and later it was postponed to Summer 2020. However, it was a few days ago, when the makers announced the film will hit the screens on 4th December 2020.

  • Film sets Shakespeare inside a wealthy British South Asian family
  • Directed by Aneil Karia and in cinemas 6 February 2025
  • Cast includes Morfydd Clark, Joe Alwyn, Sheeba Chadha and Art Malik

Riz Ahmed has entered Hamlet in a way British cinema has not quite seen. The new Hamlet trailer has been released by Universal, giving the first proper look at Aneil Karia’s modern take on Shakespeare and placing the story inside a British South Asian business empire. It is due in cinemas on 6 February, and the footage shows a tense, controlled Ahmed moving through grief, suspicion and family power.

The film teams Ahmed and Karia again after The Long Goodbye, which won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short. That success informs this production. This is the first time a major UK studio release has grounded Hamlet within a South Asian household for a wide audience.
