‘Great British Bake Off’: Dana Conway becomes sixth contestant to be eliminated

Dana Conway, 25, has been eliminated from The Great British Bake Off 2023.

She became the sixth baker to leave the tent, as announced by presenters Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond.

Dana, a database administrator from Essex, said, "I knew it was me that was going to go home, I could sense it so I hyped myself up for it.”

She added, “I am just thinking of all the fun that I have had over the last six weeks and that is what I am going to remember.

“I never thought I would get to week six. Bake Off came at just the right moment in my life, and I will never forget the experience.

“If I could rewind time and do it all again, I definitely would.”

In Dana's sixth and final episode, contestants had to cook nature-themed bakes, a round won by star baker Josh.

The database administrator said another major highlight for her was meeting her fellow contestants, adding, “I love how kind and generous all the bakers are.

“They are a group of people who I consider to be such close friends and I can always go to them with any questions, both personal and baking-related.

“I feel honoured to have been able to work with such a great team and I love them all.”

Discussing what she will take away from the show, she said it has helped her understand her “worth” and prove to herself what she is capable of.

Dana also took the opportunity to thank her supporters.

"What has been truly wonderful are the many gorgeous comments on social media praising me for positive thinking and an inspirational mindset.

"Bake Off has given me a lot of confidence that I had lost over the years and for that, I am truly grateful," she added.

Anurag Kashyap on 'Dhurandhar': "Ignored the propaganda dialogues and loved the filmmaking"

Highlights

  • Anurag Kashyap calls Dhurandhar a “significant” and “brilliant” film despite disagreeing with parts of its politics
  • Says he ignored what he viewed as propaganda lines and concentrated on the filmmaking
  • Compares the film to Hollywood war dramas often criticised for political messaging

Kashyap’s review singles out craft over ideology

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has added his voice to the praise for Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller Dhurandhar, saying he admired the film even though he did not agree with all of its political messaging. Writing on Letterboxd, Kashyap said he chose to look past what he felt were a couple of propaganda-heavy moments and instead focus on the quality of the filmmaking.

He noted that hostility towards an enemy state is often built into the genre itself, adding that he had no issue with that aspect. However, he pointed to two specific dialogues that troubled him, saying that setting them aside allowed the film to work strongly on its own terms. He described Dhurandhar as a good, and ultimately brilliant, film largely set in Pakistan.
