Friendship Day Special: Bollywood songs that you can dedicate to your friends on this special day

Friends are the most important people in our lives. Things that we can’t share with our family members, we share it with our friends. A jingle of a popular global telecommunications services company says, ‘Har ek friend zarori hota hai…’ and well, we quite agree with it.

In Bollywood, we have seen many films where friendship plays a very pivotal part and some films are based on two friends itself. Today, as the world celebrates Friendship Day let’s look at some of the songs that you can dedicate to your friends on this special day…

Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge (Sholay)

When we talk about songs revolving around friendship, the first one that comes to our mind is the track Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge from Sholay. Jai and Veeru’s friendship was the highlight of the film and the lyrics of this track surely stole everyone’s hearts, Yeh dosti hum nahi todenge, todenge dam magar, tere saath na chodenge…

Tere Jaisa Yaar Kahan (Yaarana)

Tere jaisa yaar kahan, kaha aisa yaarana naa, yaad karegi duniyan, tera mera afsana… This song from 1981 release Yaarana was a big hit when the film released and it is one of the evergreen songs of Bollywood. The movie featured Amitabh Bachchan and Amjad Khan, and it focused on what friends can do for each other.

Yaaron (KK single)

In the late 90s when pop songs were the rage, there was a beautiful song sung by singer KK titled Yaaron. It was about the friendship and featured the filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor in it. Well, the lyrics of the track actually gave out the true meaning of friendship, Yaaron dosti badi hi haseen hai, yeh na hoto kya fir bolo yeh zindagi…

Dil Chahta Hai title track

One of the best films made on friendship in Bollywood is Dil Chahta Hai. Starring Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna, the movie made us wish we had friends like them. The Farhan Akhtar directorial is still loved by people and we cannot forget the title track of the movie, Dil chahta hai, kabhi na beetein chamkile din, dil chahta hai, hum na rahe kabhi, yaaron ke bin…  By the way, after watching this track, we all feel like going on a road trip with our friends.

Jaane Kyun (Dostana)

2008 release Dostana might be remembered for being the first mainstream movie to talk about homosexuality (though in a funny way), but we cannot ignore that the movie also focused on the friendship that Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, and Priyanka Chorpa shared. The track Jaane Kyun from the film showcases how friendship develops between the three characters. And of course, the wonderful lyrics, Jaane kyu dil jaanta hai, tu hai toh I'll be alright.

Tera Yaar Hoon Main (Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety)

While watching Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, we laughed out loud a lot of times, but it was the climax that made our eyes teary with emotions. The song Tera Yaar Hoon Main that comes in the climax of the film made everyone emotional. The lyrics of the song made everyone remember their childhood friends, Tu hi wajah, tere bina bewajah bekar hoon main, tera yaar hoon main, tera yaar hoon main…

Imtiaz Ali exclusive interview: 'Many things you do as a filmmaker are subconscious'

There’s a peculiar magic in the way Imtiaz Ali speaks: soft, measured, and thoughtful, like someone tuned in to the quieter corners of the human experience. Few storytellers chart that emotional topography of longing quite like him. In his world, love is rarely convenient, and home is more a feeling than a place. So, it feels almost inevitable that his latest creative chapter plays out in My Melbourne, an anthology that threads together themes of race, migration, identity, and emotional displacement through a diasporic lens.

The irony of home in Jules

Ali’s segment, Jules, explores an unlikely friendship between two women: one a newlywed food blogger recently arrived in Melbourne, the other a woman living on the streets. “Belonging is such a tricky thing,” he says. “You’ve got to belong to somebody before they belong to you.”

Retro reviews say Suriya powers a visually striking but overstuffed gangster romance

Karthik Subbaraj’s Retro has sparked mixed reactions, with many applauding its grand vision and Suriya’s magnetic performance, even as the film struggles to balance style and substance. It’s a throwback in form and name, but with a narrative that jumps decades, from sepia-toned memories to blood-soaked confrontations.

At its core, Retro tells the story of Paarivelkannan (Suriya), an orphan marked by fate and forged in violence. Raised in a gangster household, his life takes an unexpected turn when love enters in the form of Rukmini (Pooja Hegde). The film teases a redemptive arc, can a man born into chaos escape it, or is violence his destiny?

David Attenborough turns 99 with a powerful message on industrial fishing in new documentary ‘Ocean’

Sir David Attenborough is marking his 99th birthday with the release of Ocean, a new feature documentary in which the veteran naturalist speaks more strongly than ever before against the environmental destruction caused by industrial fishing.

The film, which opens in UK cinemas on 8 May, focuses heavily on bottom trawling, a method Attenborough describes as "draining the life from our oceans". In a particularly stark moment, he states that the scars left by these vessels on the seabed are so extensive that “the trails of destruction can be seen from space”.
