‘Everybody in West trying to reach out to Rajamouli. He’s the perfect director for a DC or a Marvel film': Anurag Kashyap

Director SS Rajamouli has taken Indian cinema to new global heights with his film RRR (2022). Fronted by Jr NTR and Ram Charan, the film has been creating waves across the globe ever since it hit the marquee in March last year.

After doing thunderous business at the ticket window and receiving an unprecedented response on Netflix, the film created history when it won the prestigious Golden Globes Award for its highly energetic chart-busting song “Naatu Naatu.”

It added one more victory by winning the Critics Choice Awards at the recently held ceremony in Los Angeles. The song “Naatu Naatu” has also been shortlisted for the Oscars 2023, scheduled to take place in March 2023.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is one of the biggest fans of the film and has never shied away from praising RRR and SS Rajamouli. In a recent interaction with News18, the director said that the film is rooted and this is what makes it successful.

“Movies from down South are still grounded and they still look like Indian films,” he said. “RRR is all about its storytelling and for the global audience, “Naatu Naatu” is a visually incredible song because it’s rooted.”

At the Critics Choice Award, veteran Hollywood director James Cameron was seen having a conversation with Rajamouli and praised RRR endlessly. Kashyap feels that Rajamouli is the 'perfect director' to make films for Marvel and DC. “Everybody in the West is trying to reach out to Rajamouli now. He’s the kind of filmmaker who can make a massive difference. He’s like the perfect director for a DC or a Marvel film. Conversations about collaborations between India and the West have been going on for a very long time. But with SS Rajamouli, it wouldn’t be a collaboration. What will happen is that they will steal him from us,” he added.

Salman Khan slammed by Muslim cleric for wearing £32,000 Ayodhya Ram temple watch, calls it 'haram'

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has found himself at the centre of a religious controversy after wearing a limited edition watch featuring the Ram Janmabhoomi temple design. The accessory, which was noticed during the promotions of his upcoming film Sikandar, has drawn criticism from Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, president of the All India Muslim Jamaat.

Maulana Razvi has expressed strong disapproval, stating that as a Muslim, Salman Khan should avoid symbols associated with other religions. He referred to the act as “haram” (forbidden) under Islamic law and urged the actor to be mindful of his influence, especially given his large Muslim fan following.

In a deeply emotional moment on the sets of Zee Tamil’s dance reality show Dance Jodi Dance Reloaded 3, actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar broke down while recounting her traumatic experience of being sexually abused as a child. The revelation came after contestant Kemy shared her own story of surviving harassment by family members. The actor, known for her work in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films, explained that her parents, veteran actor Sarathkumar and Chaya were working at the time, leaving her in the care of others. “Your story is my story,” she told Kemy, hugging her in solidarity. “I don’t have children, but I always tell parents to teach kids about ‘good touch’ and ‘bad touch.’ It’s so important.”
