Asha Parekh slams the makers of ‘The Kashmir Files’

Veteran Bollywood actress Asha Parekh slammed the makers of the blockbuster film The Kashmir Files (2022), directed by Vivek Agnihotri.

She questioned how much money the makers donated from their profit to help Hindus living 'without water and electricity' in Jammu and Kashmir.

During an interview with News18, Asha was asked if she had watched 'controversial' films such as The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story (2023), both of which performed exceptionally well at the ticket window.

“I haven’t seen those films, so I can’t comment on the controversies surrounding them,” she replied.

When asked whether such films should be made, she said, “If people are watching them, then they should watch them.”

She further added, “Yes, people watched The Kashmir Files. I will say something controversial here…the producer of the film made Rs 400 crore. From that how much money did they give for the welfare of the Hindus living in Jammu and Kashmir? Those who don’t have water or electricity. How much money did the producer give to them? “After paying everybody else’s share, the producers will have their share of profit. Suppose they earned Rs 200 crore out of the film’s Rs 400 crore earnings, they could have donated Rs 50 crore to help the people.”

The Kashmir Files is directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Vivek in association with Abhishek Agarwal Arts and Zee Studio.

It features Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Puneet Issar, Darshan Kumar, Prakash Belawadi, Mrinal Kulkarni, and Chinmay Mandlekar in the cast.

The film allegedly sheds light on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley around 1990.

Shah Rukh Khan charges more than Salman Khan for concerts, says Australian event organisers

Bollywood actors have long been known to earn substantial fees for live performances and international events, particularly those aimed at the Indian diaspora. According to Australian event organisers Pace D and Bikram Singh Randhawa, some of the industry's biggest stars not only draw larger crowds abroad but also command higher fees than their contemporaries.

Speaking to YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, the organisers shed light on the dynamics of Bollywood celebrities performing in Australia. When asked which star between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan charges more for a live show in the country, they stated that Shah Rukh Khan is the higher-paid of the two. “The moment he spreads his arms, half the country’s population will just fall over,” they said, referring to Shah Rukh’s signature pose and immense popularity, especially among women. The organisers noted that the actor enjoys a strong female fan base in Australia, which significantly adds to his market value for such events.
