Asha Parekh slams the makers of ‘The Kashmir Files’

Veteran Bollywood actress Asha Parekh slammed the makers of the blockbuster film The Kashmir Files (2022), directed by Vivek Agnihotri.

She questioned how much money the makers donated from their profit to help Hindus living 'without water and electricity' in Jammu and Kashmir.

During an interview with News18, Asha was asked if she had watched 'controversial' films such as The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story (2023), both of which performed exceptionally well at the ticket window.

“I haven’t seen those films, so I can’t comment on the controversies surrounding them,” she replied.

When asked whether such films should be made, she said, “If people are watching them, then they should watch them.”

She further added, “Yes, people watched The Kashmir Files. I will say something controversial here…the producer of the film made Rs 400 crore. From that how much money did they give for the welfare of the Hindus living in Jammu and Kashmir? Those who don’t have water or electricity. How much money did the producer give to them? “After paying everybody else’s share, the producers will have their share of profit. Suppose they earned Rs 200 crore out of the film’s Rs 400 crore earnings, they could have donated Rs 50 crore to help the people.”

The Kashmir Files is directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Vivek in association with Abhishek Agarwal Arts and Zee Studio.

It features Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Puneet Issar, Darshan Kumar, Prakash Belawadi, Mrinal Kulkarni, and Chinmay Mandlekar in the cast.

The film allegedly sheds light on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley around 1990.

Kalki 2 continues to hold attention despite the long wait

Sequels often struggle to maintain momentum when production stretches over several years, but Kalki 2 continues to generate strong interest even without regular updates from the team.

Much of that anticipation comes from the world created by Nag Ashwin in Kalki 2898 AD, which ended with several unresolved story threads and set the stage for a larger cinematic universe. The scale of the film, combined with its mythology-inspired storytelling and ensemble cast, has kept conversations around the sequel alive.
