Amitabh Bachchan-Emraan Hashmi starrer Chehre moves to 17th July

If you were looking forward to seeing Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi share the screen space for the first time, you will have to wait a little longer as the release date of their much-awaited film Chehre has been postponed yet again.

Initially, the mystery thriller was set to hit the marquee on 21st February, but then the makers postponed it to April 17. Pushing the release date further, the makers have locked 17th July as the new release date of the movie. The decision has been taken on a special request from filmmaker Shoojit Sircar and producer Ronnie Lahiri, the makers of another Amitabh Bachchan starrer Gulabo Sitabo.

Confirming the development, producer of Chehre Anand Pandit says, “Yes we have moved Chehre to 17th July, upon a special request from the makers of Gulabo Sitabo. We have always had a fantastic association with Shoojit Sircar and Ronnie Lahiri, and seeing as it was mutually beneficial to not only all of us to give a good release window to these exciting movies, but also to Mr Bachchan’s fans, we decided to now release Chehre on 17th July!”

Producer Lahiri of Rising Sun Films also confirmed the same, “Our film was ready and we were keen to release it in April. We share a great rapport with Mr Anand Pandit and as the Chehre shoot was going on, we humbly requested him if we could release Gulabo Sitabo in April and he was gracious and kind enough to push the release date of Chehre.”

In addition to Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi, Chehre also features Rhea Chakraborty, Siddhanth Kapoor, Drithiman Chakroborthy, Krystle Dsouza, Raghubir Yadav and Annu Kapoor on its ensemble cast. The movie has been written and directed by Rummy Jaffrey. Gulabo Sitabo, on the other hand, has Ayushmann Khurrana playing the lead role alongside thespian Amitabh Bachchan.

What Britain’s ban on strangulation porn really means and why campaigners say it could backfire

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

You see it everywhere now. In mainstream pornography, a man’s hands around a woman’s neck. It has become so common that for many, especially the young, it just seems like part of sex, a normal step. The UK government has decided it should not be, and soon, it will be a crime.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
