Amit Sadh reveals he was banned by TV industry

Today, Amit Sadh has established himself as one of the finest actors working in Bollywood and the constantly growing webspace. But not many people know that his transition to movies happened because he was banned by the television industry at the very outset of his acting career.

Sadh started out on television before shifting his gears to Bollywood. He made his acting debut with Star Plus’ popular teen drama Kyun Hota Hai Pyarrr (2002-04), co-starring Riva Bubber and Sonal Pendse. The actor was blacklisted on television for being outspoken, an incident that led him to explore opportunities in Bollywood.

“I did not leave television to go to the movies. On television, they banned me. They called each other and said, ‘Do not give him work.’ Then I said, ‘Oh? You won’t give me work here? Then I will do films’,” Amit Sadh said in his latest interview.

The actor says that he was in his early 20s and ready to fight. Once a leading television producer called him and told him that he had quite a reputation, even though he was a good actor. To which Sadh replied, ‘If you do something wrong, I will fight.’

In 2010, Amit Sadh made his Bollywood debut with Ram Gopal Varma’s horror film Phoonk 2. But it was filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor’s film Kai Po Che! (2013), which changed his career graph forever. Also starring debutant Sushant Singh Rajput and Rajkummar Rao, Kai Po Che! turned out to be an instant success at the box-office and there has been no looking back for Sadh ever since.

The actor is currently awaiting the digital release of his next film Yaara, co-starring Vidyut Jammwal, Vijay Varma, Shruti Haasan and Sanjay Mishra. It is slated for release on July 30, 2020.

Tamil producers push for a Hollywood-style pay model embraced by Allu Arjun and Ranveer Singh

Highlights

  • Tamil producers are backing a wider shift towards revenue-sharing agreements.
  • Producer G Dhananjheyan says up to 60 per cent of a film's revenue could be distributed among actors and technicians.
  • The model aims to reduce upfront financial pressure on producers.
  • Allu Arjun and Ranveer Singh have been cited as examples of stars embracing the approach.

As film budgets continue to climb and box-office outcomes become harder to predict, Tamil producers are advocating a significant change in how actors and technicians are paid. Instead of relying on large upfront fees, they are encouraging a revenue-sharing model that links earnings directly to a film's performance.

The approach, widely used in Hollywood, is increasingly being viewed as a way to balance risk and reward across the industry. Supporters argue it could help producers manage costs while giving stars and crew members the opportunity to benefit more substantially when a film becomes a major success.
