Ahead of its release, Sonchiriya lands in legal soup

Starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Ashutosh Rana and Manoj Bajpayee in principal roles, the upcoming Hindi film Sonchiriya has created a lot of pre-release buzz thanks to its gripping trailer which attracted a lot of eyeballs.

Directed by well-known filmmaker Abhishek Chaubey, who has previously helmed such successful films as Ishqiya (2010), Dedh Ishqiya (2014) and Udta Punjab (2016), Sonchiriya revolves around a gang of dacoits who rule the land of Chambal.

While everything was going well for the film so far, it has now landed into legal trouble. People of Chambal have raised an objection to how the makers of the film have shown their city on the big screen.

Sonchiriya team has rolled out a series of promotional videos to promote the film. What is common in all the promotional videos are guns and violence. This has not gone well with the local people as they feel that the makers are not portraying their city in the right way.

They have now sent a legal notice to the makers of the film through an organisation named 'Shiksha Mitra Foundation' and the social workers have asked a few dialogues of the film such be changed.

Sonchiriya is set to release on 1st March. It will be interesting to see if the film will be able to reach cinemas in such scenario or not.
