Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar in an untitled horror flick

Vicky Kaushal, who is riding high on the success of his latest release Uri: The Surgical Strike (2018), will be next seen in a horror film. Joining him on the cast of the movie will be Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) actress Bhumi Pednekar.

The untitled film is being bankrolled by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Shashank Khaitan’s assistant director Bhanu Pratap Singh will be making his directorial debut with the high concept horror flick.

Spilling some more details, a source says, “Vicky has been quietly shooting for the film in Mumbai for over a month now and a major chunk is already complete. While it features him in the lead, Bhumi has an extended cameo for which she will shoot in the next few days.”

The film revolves around a ship and will not use familiar horror topes done to death in Hindi films. “Unlike some quintessential horror films that are set in haunted houses, this one revolves around a ship that lies static at a beach,” the source adds.

The movie will complete its shoot by next month. It is expected to roll into cinemas in the second half of the year.

After completing this untitled film, Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar will reteam for Karan Johar’s magnum opus Takht. The period drama, which also stars Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor, is expected to begin production by the year-end.

‘Really Absurd’: Streaming giants are deleting fan-favourite 'Premalu' to force-feed its Hindi remake

Highlights

  • Premalu has disappeared from JioHotstar just as the trailer for its Hindi remake Prem Keetanu was released.
  • Fans have questioned why the Malayalam hit was removed ahead of the remake’s October theatrical release.
  • The remake’s trailer has already faced criticism from viewers who compared it unfavourably with the original.

There is something particularly awkward about launching a remake while the film it is based on has suddenly become harder to watch.

That is exactly what has happened with Prem Keetanu, the Hindi remake of Malayalam blockbuster Premalu. The trailer for the Veer Pahariya-starrer dropped on Monday, but instead of simply debating whether the remake can live up to the original, fans found themselves asking another question: where did Premalu go?
