Varun Dhawan to play a Maharashtrian character in Mr. Lele?

It was a few days ago when Karan Johar announced his production venture Mr. Lele starring Varun Dhawan in the lead role. The film will be directed by Shashank Khaitan who has directed Varun in films like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania.

Karan had posted on Instagram, “Just when you thought that the news couldn’t get any better, it got more entertaining! #MrLele aka @varundvn along with @shashankkhaitan are going to start 2021 with a bang! Releasing 1st Jan, 2021. @apoorva1972 @dharmamovies”

Now, according to a report in a tabloid, Varun will be seen playing a Maharashtrian character in the film and will undergo training to get the accent right. A source told the tabloid, “Workshops begin sometime in February and Varun is kicked to explore a new space with the film. There will be mysterious undertones to all the central characters, while the screenplay has a lot of situational humour and romance. A major chunk of the film will be shot at real locations in Mumbai.”

“Before taking the film on the floors, there will be several script-reading sessions individually with the actors as well as together to get the characters in-sync,” the source added.

The film is slated to release on 1st January 2021 and the source says that as the film is in a happy space the makers decided to release it on 1st Jan.

Reportedly, Mr. Lele stars Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor as the female leads. But the makers are yet to officially announce their names. Earlier, it was stated that Kiara Advani will be seen as one of the female leads, but due to date issues she opted out of the film and Janhvi replaced her.
