South Indian films that made a mark with their Hindi dubbed versions

We can see how nowadays more and more South films are being dubbed in Hindi to attract the moviegoers all over India and overseas. Even audiences are accepting these dubbed versions and the Hindi versions are doing quite well at the box office.

So, today let’s look at the list of South Indian films that made a mark with their Hindi dubbed versions…


Roja

Mani Ratnam’s Roja was originally made in Tamil and then dubbed in Hindi, Marathi, Malayalam, and Telugu. The film starring Arvind Swamy and Madhoo got a great response and the songs of the film are still remembered by the audiences. AR Rahman won a National Award for his music in the film.

Bombay

We can say that in the 90s it was Mani Ratnam’s South movies that were making a mark in Hindi belt too. After Roja, it was Bombay that was loved by one and all. Starring Arvind Swamy and Manisha Koirala the movie was based on the 1992 riots that took place in Mumbai (then Bombay). Manisha received a Filmfare award for her performance in the film.

Robot/2.0

S Shankar’s Robot starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is one of the best sci-fi films made in Indian cinema. It is originally a Tamil film but was dubbed in Hindi and became a hit. The sequel to the film 2.0 which starred Akshay Kumar as the antagonist was also a super hit at the box office.

Baahubali/Baahubali 2

In between, the dubbed versions of South Indian films were only being premiered on television and were not hitting the screens. But, after the super success of Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion, South filmmakers are once again keen to release their film in Hindi.

KGF

While earlier mostly there were only Tamil and Telugu films being dubbed in Hindi, last year, we saw a Hindi dubbed version of the Kannada film KGF. Starring Yash in the lead role, the film did quite well at the box office and now, the makers are all set for the sequel of the film.

Ram Gopal Varma says ‘Dhurandhar’ being ignored by industry

FILMMAKER Ram Gopal Varma has said that the film industry often ignores pathbreaking films because it feels threatened by them, referring to the Ranveer Singh-starrer espionage drama “Dhurandhar”.

Varma said films that set new standards are often sidelined by industry insiders who feel unable to match them. He said this was the case with “Dhurandhar”, which is set in Karachi’s Lyari town and directed by Aditya Dhar, known for “Uri: The Surgical Strike”.
