Sooraj Barjatya to roll his next with Amitabh Bachchan and others in October

Renowned filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya, who last directed Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), is gearing up to begin production on his next directorial Oonchai. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, and Neena Gupta in principal roles. The latest update suggests that Oonchai will go before cameras in October in Nepal.

Spilling more beans, a source close to the development tells a publication, “Sooraj Barjatya has been on a look out for a safe shooting location as it’s a cast driven by senior citizens. He did a recce at multiple locations in India and abroad and has finally zeroed in on Nepal as the shooting spot. The team will be stationed in the country for 40 to 45 days and will shoot for the film following strict bio bubble protocols.”

The source goes on to add, “It is a story close to Sooraj’s heart and he is stepping aside from the family space to explore the bond of friends who end up being family members. It is a heart-warming tale and will be wrapped up by January 2022.”

“Sooraj Barjatya films are always riding on rooted human emotions. While we have seen urban tales of friendship in multiple films, Sooraj is set to explore a more relatable approach,” the source concludes.

Oonchai is being produced for a theatrical release. It is expected to arrive in cinemas in the second half of 2022. After wrapping up Oonchai, Barjatya will move on to commence work on an untitled film that stars Salman Khan in the lead role. The duo has previously worked together on Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999), and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.

I gave up cinema for my fans, says actor Vijay

ACTOR-POLITICIAN Vijay has said he decided to give up cinema to stand up for his fans, who, he said, offered him everything, including a “kottai” (fort).

Speaking at the audio launch of his film Jana Nayagan in Malaysia, Vijay said his decision was driven by the loyalty and support of his fans. In Tamil Nadu, the word kottai symbolises a stronghold and also refers to Fort St George in Chennai, which houses the state assembly, secretariat and the chief minister’s office.
