PUNJABI is the best-paying foreign language in London, boasting an average salary of £43,415, a recent study has revealed.

Conducted by researchers at the language learning platform Preply, the study, however, said that Punjabi falls outside the top 10 languages in demand by London employers, with just 30 job openings.

The study also stated Arabic and German as other well-paid foreign languages, with average salaries of £43,143 and £41,934, respectively.

Interestingly, Arabic is the highest-paying language in the UK, as job advertisements offering an average salary of £43,903 significantly more than the national average of around £32,000.

Punjabi secures only the sixth position on the UK-wide list, underscoring the earning potential for Punjabi speakers in the London job market. In contrast, average salaries for positions requiring Hindi and Italian are just over £30,000, falling below the UK average.

Even though Arabic is the highest-paying language, it ranks sixth in terms of demand, with only 2,491 job vacancies currently available. The study, which analysed over 360,000 job ads, found that the top four languages all offered average salaries exceeding £40,000.

Among foreign languages, French emerged as the most sought-after in the capital, boasting 4,926 job vacancies, followed by German with 3,796 openings, and Spanish with 2,393.

Recent insights from the British Council revealed that one in four British adults regret never having learned a second language.
