AN anti-terrorism court in Pakistan has approved the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan in a case related to violence at an army building in Lahore, broadcaster Ary News reported on Wednesday (23), citing sources.
Khan is currently jailed after a graft conviction. Wednesday's ruling relates to violence that erupted during Khan's previous arrest in May on graft charges, unrelated to his present conviction. He has denied any wrongdoing in both cases.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court on Thursday (24) resumed hearing on an appeal filed by Imran Khan challenging his conviction and sentence by a sessions court in the Toshakhana corruption case.
Judge Humayun Dilawar of the Islamabad-based court on August 5 sentenced Khan, 70, to three years in prison for hiding the proceeds from the sale of state gifts.
The case was launched in October last year on the complaint of the Election Commission of Pakistan which had earlier disqualified Khan in the same case.
Khan within days had challenged the conviction in the Islamabad High Court, seeking to suspend his sentence and overturn the judgment.
