Nushrratt Bharuccha on working with Rajkummar Rao in Chhalaang: He improvises a lot

Murtuza Iqbal

Hansal Mehta’s Chhalaang starring Rajkummar Rao and Nushrratt Bharuccha was slated to hit the big screens in June this year. However, due to the pandemic, the makers of the film decided to release it on the OTT platform, Amazon Prime Video.

Recently, we interacted with Nushrratt and asked her how excited she is for Chhalaang’s direct-to-digital release because this will make her digital debut. To which the actress stated, “Very excited! We all knew that the film is ready and we had various release dates that were announced. We were kind of working on certain aspects of the film, and then the lockdown happened, and then we didn’t have a choice. But just the fact that the film is finally going to reach the audience, in itself is just so nice to hear and so relieving because when you make a film, all you want to do is eagerly get it out, like get it released and let the people see it. And when it gets stuck, it is a little bit of a bummer. So, I am just glad that it’s finally going to reach audiences and people are going to watch, and I am going to watch it. I am more excited to sit down in front of a TV and play it on Amazon Prime Video.”

Nushrratt and Rajkummar had shared screen space in the 2010 release Love Sex Aur Dhoka. Though they were not paired opposite each other, the two were seen together in a couple of scenes.

When asked about her experience of working with Rajkummar after a decade, Nushrratt said, “We had very different paths, but we have grown in our own spaces as actors and as people. But to see him now after watching all his performances and to watch him do that same craft in front of you was an absolute delight. I was trying to observe him as much as I could. Actors have certain things that they keep it to themselves which they use in their performances, I was trying to get into that and find out what he does, how he does, and how he achieves that. One thing about Raj is that he improvises a lot like he knows this is the framework and this is the scene, but he will just start doing something completely different and I was like ‘oh okay we are still in the scene, I think we had snapped out of it’.”

Chhalaang will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video on 13th November 2020.

Lewis Hamilton rewrote the rules of racing on screen, says F1 director: ‘We built the film around his mind’

Brad Pitt’s upcoming Formula One film, titled F1, owes much of its realism and racing soul to none other than seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. According to director Joseph Kosinski, the film wouldn’t exist in its current form without Hamilton’s hands-on involvement, from the first pitch to the final details.

Kosinski, best known for Top Gun: Maverick, shared that Hamilton was the first person he contacted when the project was just an idea. An email led to a partnership, and Hamilton came on board not only as an executive producer but as a consultant whose lived experience shaped everything from the screenplay to on-track movements.
