Nushrat Bharucha pairs up with Sunny Kaushal in Hurdang

Actress Nushrat Bharucha, who was last seen in the Luv Ranjan-directed blockbuster film Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018), has bagged a plum role in producer Shailesh R. Singh’s forthcoming production venture called Hurdang. Newcomer Sunny Kaushal, who was last seen in the 2018 Independence Day release Gold, has been signed on to romance the talented actress in the movie.

Sunny Kaushal, who is the younger brother of breakout star Vicky Kaushal, entered filmdom in 2016 with Sunshine Music Tours & Travels. He is now set to play a prominent part in Hurdang, which is set in the city of Prayagraj. Besides Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Kaushal, Gully Boy (2019) actor Vijay Varma also plays a pivotal part in the flick.

Talking about the film, producer Shailesh R. Singh said in a statement, “It’s a young, restless love story from the 90s. People in 1990s were innocent and vulnerable. They didn’t have the advantage of technology the way youngsters have now. There was a deep desire to fight for your cause and claim your right. Sunny, Nushrat and Vijay fit in quite naturally. Sunny and Nushrat play students coming from different ideologies and backgrounds, but a couple destined to be together. They play childhood lovers who have grown up together. Both Sunny and Nushrat bring innocent and palpable energy, naturally into the story.”

Hurdang is scheduled to hit the shooting floor on 1st July 2019. It will be directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt, who describes his film as a hard-hitting drama that will surely hit the right chord with the audience.

The film is expected to buzz into theatres in the first half of 2020.

TroyBoi returns to his Indian roots with Rootz EP using Lata Mangeshkar’s voice to redefine British diaspora music

Highlights:

  • TroyBoi’s five-track EP Rootz is a personal return to the sounds of his childhood, released via Ultra Records in September 2025.
  • The single Kabhi uses an officially cleared sample of Lata Mangeshkar’s vocal from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
  • Collaborations with Amrit Maan, Jazzy B and BombayMami plug Punjabi, Bhangra and south-Asian textures directly into modern trap and bass production.
  • This EP is part of a wider wave: British artists born into diasporas are using heritage not as garnish but as foundation.

Some albums hit you in ways you don’t see coming. Rootz is one of them. Not just another trap EP. TroyBoi, the London-born producer known for global bass and trap, has made something that’s also deeply personal. He didn’t just want to make music that bangs in clubs; instead, he wanted to reach back to the India of his childhood. And he did it with Rootz.

The track everyone’s talking about is Kabhi. Because it’s not just sampling Bollywood. Lata Mangeshkar’s voice was officially cleared for use on a non-Bollywood release, a milestone reported by multiple outlets. It’s history. It’s memory. And it’s a bridge.
