Kartik Aaryan on comparison with Shah Rukh Khan

Kartik Aaryan, who burst onto the scene with Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011), has come a long way in his career. With sheer hard-work and dedication to his craft, he has established himself as one of the most sought-after actors in Bollywood.

The handsome actor will shortly be seen in Love Aaj Kal. Also starring Sara Ali Khan and debutante Aarushi Sharma in important roles, the romantic film has been directed by ace storyteller Imtiaz Ali. The filmmaker recently heaped praises on Kartik Aaryan and, drawing an analogy, compared him to superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

This was indeed a huge compliment for the actor, which made Aaryan really happy. “I think it is a huge compliment to come from Imtiaz Ali sir, who has actually worked with Shah Rukh Khan sir. He saying something like this is huge for me. I am really, really happy,” said the actor.

He went on to add, “To be honest, I cannot really compare myself or say anything about it because Shah Rukh sir is the biggest superstar and someone who is actually the 'King of Romance', but even if a miniscule comparison of 1% is possible with him, then it is a massive compliment for me. I hope that I can display even 1/10th of the romance in Love Aaj Kal that Shah Rukh Khan sir has shown in his films till now, which will be a huge thing for me. So, I thank Imtiaz sir who has really believed in me and given me this opportunity to play two characters who are romancing on screen, and showing that much amount of intensity and love, required in a romantic film. I am just glad he chose me for that."

Produced by Jio Studios, Maddock Films and Window Seat Films, Love Aaj Kal is poised for its theatrical bow on 14th February, 2020.

TroyBoi returns to his Indian roots with Rootz EP using Lata Mangeshkar’s voice to redefine British diaspora music

Highlights:

  • TroyBoi’s five-track EP Rootz is a personal return to the sounds of his childhood, released via Ultra Records in September 2025.
  • The single Kabhi uses an officially cleared sample of Lata Mangeshkar’s vocal from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
  • Collaborations with Amrit Maan, Jazzy B and BombayMami plug Punjabi, Bhangra and south-Asian textures directly into modern trap and bass production.
  • This EP is part of a wider wave: British artists born into diasporas are using heritage not as garnish but as foundation.

Some albums hit you in ways you don’t see coming. Rootz is one of them. Not just another trap EP. TroyBoi, the London-born producer known for global bass and trap, has made something that’s also deeply personal. He didn’t just want to make music that bangs in clubs; instead, he wanted to reach back to the India of his childhood. And he did it with Rootz.

The track everyone’s talking about is Kabhi. Because it’s not just sampling Bollywood. Lata Mangeshkar’s voice was officially cleared for use on a non-Bollywood release, a milestone reported by multiple outlets. It’s history. It’s memory. And it’s a bridge.
