Karan Johar set to bankroll a spy film on RAW founder

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar, who is basking in the huge success of his latest production offering Good Newwz (2019), has announced an espionage thriller based on the life of Rameshwar Nath Kao. Kao is the founder of India's external intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). The project will be an adaptation of the book R.N. Kao: Gentleman Spymaster.

Announcing the high-profile project on his Twitter handle, Johar wrote, "Turning pages into frames, one thrill at a time. Bringing to you an adaptation of Nitin Gokhale's book R.N. Kao: Gentleman Spymaster to the silver screen. More information coming soon!"


Along with his tweet, the filmmaker also tagged a description picture which included details about the project and Kao: "An adaptation of the book R.N. Kao: Gentleman Spymaster written by Nitin Gokhale, the film will tell the story of Kao who founded India's external intelligence agency - R&AW and how he went on to become a success story in the world of international espionage."

Apart from laying the foundation of Research and Analysis Wing and heading it from its founding in 1969 to 1977, Kao also founded the Joint Intelligence Committee and the Aviation Research Centre. He breathed his last in the year 2002. Karan Johar will co-produce the biographical film in association with Still & Still Media Collective.

Meanwhile, KJo is busy hunting locations for his most ambitious project Takht. The period drama stars Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor in principal characters. Set to go before cameras in February, Takht is expected to hit screens in the first half of 2021.

Clooney speaks out

George Clooney has voiced support for actors Paul Dano, Owen Wilson and Matthew Lillard after they were harshly criticised by Quentin Tarantino last month.

Speaking at AARP’s Movies for Grownups awards on 10 January, Clooney said he would be “honoured” to work with all three. He added that he does not enjoy seeing people treated cruelly.
