Karan Johar launches the theatrical trailer of Dhadak, featuring Janhvi and Ishaan

Ace filmmaker Karan Johar unveiled the theatrical trailer of his forthcoming film Dhadak, which stars debutante Janhvi Kapoor, the elder daughter of late Bollywood icon Sridevi and filmmaker Boney Kapoor, and Ishaan Khatter.

Dhadak, the official adaptation of super successful Marathi film Sairat (2016), features Ishaan Khatter in the role of a Rajasthani teenager called Madhukar who falls head over heels in love with Parthavi, a girl who hails from a rich and influential family that can go to any length to save their honour. The character of Parthavi is played by Janhvi Kapoor who reminds of her mother, Sridevi, in many of the scenes in the movie.

At the grand trailer launch, which took place today at a theatre in Mumbai, the entire cast of the film was in attendance, along with director Shashank Khaitan. While Ishaan Khatter was accompanied by his mother, Neelima Azeem, Janhvi Kapoor’s entire family was present at the launch, including father Boney Kapoor, sister Khushi Kapoor, uncles Anil and Sanjay Kapoor, cousins Harshvardhan, Shanaya and Jahaan Kapoor.

During an interaction with media when Janhvi was asked about her first day of the shoot, she said, “It was fun and it was really excited to be in front of the camera. I remember I didn't sleep all night.”

Produced by Dharma Productions in collaboration with Zee Studios, Dhadak releases on 20th July, 2018.

TroyBoi returns to his Indian roots with Rootz EP using Lata Mangeshkar’s voice to redefine British diaspora music

Highlights:

  • TroyBoi’s five-track EP Rootz is a personal return to the sounds of his childhood, released via Ultra Records in September 2025.
  • The single Kabhi uses an officially cleared sample of Lata Mangeshkar’s vocal from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
  • Collaborations with Amrit Maan, Jazzy B and BombayMami plug Punjabi, Bhangra and south-Asian textures directly into modern trap and bass production.
  • This EP is part of a wider wave: British artists born into diasporas are using heritage not as garnish but as foundation.

Some albums hit you in ways you don’t see coming. Rootz is one of them. Not just another trap EP. TroyBoi, the London-born producer known for global bass and trap, has made something that’s also deeply personal. He didn’t just want to make music that bangs in clubs; instead, he wanted to reach back to the India of his childhood. And he did it with Rootz.

The track everyone’s talking about is Kabhi. Because it’s not just sampling Bollywood. Lata Mangeshkar’s voice was officially cleared for use on a non-Bollywood release, a milestone reported by multiple outlets. It’s history. It’s memory. And it’s a bridge.
