Farhan Akhtar to star as one of the male leads in his next directorial Jee Le Zaraa

Farhan Akhtar to star as one of the male leads in his next directorial Jee Le Zaraa

On 20 years of Dil Chahta Hai on August 10, 2021, Farhan Akhtar gave a pleasant surprise to his fans by announcing his next directorial venture, Jee Le Zaraa. Set to mount the shooting floor soon, Jee Le Zaraa is a girl-bonding road trip film starring Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles.

The latest update on the hugely awaited film is that apart from wielding the megaphone, Akhtar will also play one of the male leads in it.

“It is tough casting the male leads when the female leads are already in place. All the top actors assume the women have meaty roles while the men are mere shadows. But that is not the case here. The men in Jee Le Zaraa have very important roles to play. But who is going to explain it to them?” a source in the know informed a publication.

Announcing the film on social media, Akhtar had written, “Thrilled to announce my next film as director and what better day than 20 years of Dil Chahta Hai to do it. Jee Le Zaraa with Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, and Alia Bhatt will commence filming in 2022 and I cannot wait to get this show on the road.”

Written by Akhtar along with Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar, Jee Le Zaraa is an Excel Entertainment production. It will arrive in theatres in 2023.

Amazon’s ‘God of War’ reset proves Hollywood can’t get video game adaptations right

Highlights

  • Dave Bautista is taking over as Kratos after Ryan Hurst's injury forced Amazon to recast the role.
  • The series is effectively starting again, with none of the footage from the original production being used.
  • The major reset puts fresh pressure on Amazon's attempt to adapt one of gaming's most recognisable franchises.

Hollywood's relationship with video game adaptations has changed considerably in recent years. Shows such as The Last of Us and Fallout have demonstrated that games can translate successfully to television when their characters and worlds are treated with care. Amazon's God of War, however, has already encountered a production setback that makes its journey to the screen considerably more complicated.

Dave Bautista has closed his deal to play Kratos in the Prime Video series after Ryan Hurst, who was originally cast in the role, suffered a serious on-set injury. Hurst reportedly tore his bicep while performing a stunt in June, around four months into filming. Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television subsequently decided to recast the central role.
