Ekta Kapoor unveils the first look of her next Mental Hai Kya

Producer Ekta Kapoor launched the first look poster of her upcoming venture Mental Hai Kya earlier today. The film features immensely talented actors Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao who were last seen together in Vikas Bahl’s critically and commercially successful film Queen.

Sharing his first look from the film, Rajkummar Rao tweeted, "Crazy is the new normal. Mental Hai Kya with immensely talented Kangana Ranaut and my favourite (producer) Ekta Kapoor. Let's begin this mental ride Shailesh R. Singh, Balaji Motion Pictures, Ruchikaa Kapoor and Kanika Dhillon."

Talking about her character in the film, Kangana had earlier said, “You’re never sure if this girl is hallucinating or what’s happening to her is for real, whether the guy is trying to trap her or she’s got him wrong.”

Kangana was all excited about sharing the screen space with Rajkummar Rao once again. “He is a star today while still being a brilliant actor, so I will have to be on my toes to ensure he doesn’t steal the show from right under my nose”, she said.

About the movie, producer Ekta revealed, “Mental Hai Kya celebrates the beauty in imperfections and in being different and shouts out, Sanity is overrated! I’m thrilled to work with Kangana and Raj on this one.”

Mental Hai Kya is helmed by Prakash Kovelamudi. The film is going on floors later this month.

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

You see it everywhere now. In mainstream pornography, a man’s hands around a woman’s neck. It has become so common that for many, especially the young, it just seems like part of sex, a normal step. The UK government has decided it should not be, and soon, it will be a crime.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
