Confirmed: Sanjay Dutt to play a pivotal role in Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj

After superstar Akshay Kumar announced his next film, Prithviraj, with Yash Raj Films on his birthday, speculations had been rife about Sanjay Dutt also being a part of the same movie. Now, the Munna Bhai MBBS (2003) actor has himself confirmed his association with the much-awaited period drama.

Unintentionally dropping details of his presence in Prithviraj, Dutt said to a publication, “It is diverse, the kind of characters I am playing. Again, which is great! Sadak 2 is also there, and I am doing Panipat – Abdali, and in Shamshera I am playing Shudh Singh Ji and Prithviraj Chauhan, I am doing KGF. So, it is a lot of variety. It is great and Bhuj, of course.”

Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt is looking forward to the release of his upcoming film Prassthanam. Also starring Manisha Koirala, Ali Fazal, Amyra Dastur and Jackie Shroff in important roles, the movie is an official remake of the blockbuster Telugu-language political action drama Prasthanam (2010). Apart from playing the male lead, Dutt has also produced the movie under Sanjay S Dutt Productions. Directed by Deva Katta, Prassthanam is scheduled to hit theatres on 20th September.

As far as filming for Prithviraj is concerned, the makers are looking at beginning production in early 2020. The movie is scheduled for its theatrical release on Diwali 2020. Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi is helming the project for Yash Raj Films. It will mark the reunion of Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar on the silver screen after a gap of almost nine years. The duo last worked together in the 2011 film Desi Boyz, directed by debutant filmmaker Rohit Dhawan.

More details are awaited.
