1. Raanjhanaa

Sonam played the role of Zoya in the 2013 hit film Raanjhanaa, helmed by Aanand L Rai. Her de-glammed avatar and complex character with flaws drew in a lot of praises for the actor. The film also starred Dhanush and Abhay Deol in prominent roles.

2. Neerja

A biopic of brave-heart Neerja Bhanot, a flight attendant who sacrificed her life to save the passengers of the hijacked aeroplane Pan Am 73, Neerja did wonders for Sonam’s career. Her performance garnered great response from critics and audiences alike. Her acting chops deserve a special mention accompanied by her on-point dialogue delivery.

3. Pad Man

This social issue film Padman, starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, and Radhika Apte, was based on menstruation and sanitary napkins. Sonam played a titular role of a management student, raising awareness about menstrual hygiene.

4. Mausam

Although the film failed to leave a mark on the audience, Sonam's simple and elegant screen presence was loved by viewers.

5. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga

This Sonam Kapoor starrer touched upon the topic of same-sex relationships. Sonam's character Sweety was a lesbian, struggling to accept her own identity. The actress broke all stereotypes in this movie and her acting was much appreciated.

  • Zach Cregger directs a new story with no legacy characters
  • Franchise worth over £950 million globally takes a more grounded approach

An unlikely lead at the centre of horror

The new trailer for Resident Evil shifts the focus away from seasoned fighters and places Austin Abrams at the heart of the outbreak. Playing a courier who stumbles into a crisis in Raccoon City, Abrams represents a different kind of protagonist for the franchise.

There are no familiar heroes this time. Instead, the story follows someone with no experience of survival or combat, caught in a situation that rapidly spirals beyond control. The approach changes the tone, turning the narrative into something more immediate and less predictable.
