Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari heaps praises on Kangana Ranaut

Known for helming such notable films as Nil Battey Sannata (2016) and Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017), filmmaker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari is now gearing up to launch the trailer of her next directorial outing Panga, starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead role.

The first look of the slice-of-life sports drama hit the internet on Thursday and became a talking point in no time. It featured Ranaut clad in a beautiful sari, looking joyful and sitting on a sofa. Fans are now eagerly waiting for the theatrical trailer of the movie slated to be unveiled on 23rd December.

Ahead of the trailer launch, director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari opened up about working with three-time National Film Award winning actress Kangana Ranaut. "Kangana and I have become friends over the two-year journey of the film. I have realised that when she loves someone, she will take care of them all her life,” said the filmmaker.

Tiwari also spoke about how the two supported each other during the course of the making of the film. "There were times when she was really upset, in tears. As a friend, I could only support her. If everyone keeps commenting, she will be affected. It's only human,” she added.

Talking about the preparation that Ranaut had to do for her role in the film, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari revealed, "Kangana had to put on some weight, but her body type is such that it doesn't look extra on her. She immediately lost the kilos, but has put them back for her next. I don't know how she does it over and over; I have difficulty losing even once."

Also starring Jassie Gill, Richa Chaddha, Neena Gupta and Pankaj Tripathi in important roles, Panga is slated to arrive in cinemas on January 24, 2020. The film will clash with Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor’s Street Dancer 3D which also releases on the same date.

What Britain’s ban on strangulation porn really means and why campaigners say it could backfire

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

You see it everywhere now. In mainstream pornography, a man’s hands around a woman’s neck. It has become so common that for many, especially the young, it just seems like part of sex, a normal step. The UK government has decided it should not be, and soon, it will be a crime.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
