Ajay Devgn starrer Raid spawns a franchise

According to reports, the makers of the superhit Hindi film Raid (2018) are gearing up to announce a sequel to the film. Helmed by critically acclaimed filmmaker Raj Kumar Gupta and produced by Bhushan Kumar, the film was based on one of the longest Income Tax raids in the 80s. Ajay Devgn will return to play the lead role in the second instalment of the franchise.

A source close to the project informs a publication, “The franchise seeks to bring into the public eye heroes who work closely with intelligence agencies to track white-collar crimes. To this day, nobody knows the identity of the officer on whom Ajay’s Amay was modelled. Raid 2 will also be a tribute to men who do not wear the uniform.”

The source goes on to add, “It will be a huge multi-film franchise and Ajay Ji and I, along with Kumar Mangat Ji, are looking to take Raid forward. The script of Part 2 is being developed. Since the original was a much-loved film, the sequel is a huge responsibility. After the super success of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020), there is a lot of pressure on this collaboration to live up to the expectation. We have always aimed at creating high concept films.”

Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn is presently busy with his upcoming projects Maidaan and Bhuj: The Pride of India. Though both films are slated to arrive in cinemas in 2020 only, the makers may change their release dates keeping in mind the inordinate delay in shooting schedules due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

After completing Maidaan and Bhuj: The Pride of India, Devgn will team up with filmmaker Neeraj Pandey to headline his next directorial offering, Chanakya. The superstar has also confirmed his association with the Hindi remake of Tamil film Kaithi (2019).
