Abhinay Deo on Irrfan Khan: What he’s doing is absolutely inspirational and amazing

Recently, Irrfan Khan shocked his fans by announcing that he is suffering from a rare disease called Neuroendocrine tumor. The actor took to his official social media handle to talk about the same. The actor is currently being treated in London. Talking about Irrfan, the director of Irrfan’s upcoming film Blackmail, Abhinay Deo said to a leading Indian daily, “What he’s doing is absolutely inspirational and amazing. He not only opened up in detail about what he’s going through at this point of time, but also [talked about] how he’s dealing with his illness. This clearly highlights his positivity and strength. And in my opinion, it’s a winner’s attitude, something that we should learn from him.”

Adding further, he said, “Irrfan is showing us how to deal with such [unavoidable] circumstances in life. I’m happy that he’s doing well and, hopefully, will be back with us as early as possible.”

Talking about whether the film will get affected at the box office by Irrfan’s absence at the promotions of the film, Abhinay said, “Honestly, good work is always a team effort. When everyone makes something with their heart and soul, a good piece of work comes out of it. And it also strikes the right chord with the audience. We’re keeping no stone unturned to promote the film; even Irrfan wanted it this way. He wants the best for the film and has extended his support.”

Irrfan Khan will be seen in Blackmail which is slated to release on 6 April 2018.

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

You see it everywhere now. In mainstream pornography, a man’s hands around a woman’s neck. It has become so common that for many, especially the young, it just seems like part of sex, a normal step. The UK government has decided it should not be, and soon, it will be a crime.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
