Aamir Khan is back in Mogul

#MeToo movement became a rage in India last year. Many big Bollywood names were accused of sexual harassment and misconduct, and many celebs decided to not work with the people who are accused. Aamir Khan had last year tweeted that he came to know he was going to work with someone who has been accused of sexual harassment and he has decided to step down from the project.

Well, Aamir was going to produce and act in Mogul, a biopic on Gulshan Kumar, which was going to be directed by Subhash Kapoor. A few years ago, an actress had accused Kapoor of sexual misconduct and because of this Aamir had decided not to be a part of Mogul. However, surprisingly Aamir is now back in Mogul and it will be directed by Subhash Kapoor.

While talking to a daily, Aamir said, “If you remember, last year in October, I had tweeted that I won’t be a part of the film. But now, I have decided that I’ll be a part of it. So, I’m back on it now.”

Talking about supporting #MeToo movement, the actor stated, “I fully support the MeToo movement. And I urge women who have complaints to formally lodge them with their ICC (Internal Complaints Committee), which every organisation must mandatorily have. Every accusation of sexual misconduct must be investigated thoroughly and rigorously by the concerned ICC, and strict action should be taken against people found guilty. Just to clarify, the case of Mr Kapoor was not a case of workplace misconduct, hence could not be investigated by an ICC.”

Aamir went on to reveal that earlier he was just going to produce the film and not act in it. He approached Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, and Kapil Sharma to play the role of Gulshan Kumar. The actor said, “Once I came on as producer, I said let’s discuss casting. I felt that I’d like to offer the film to Akshay Kumar. I was aware that things hadn’t worked out earlier between Bhushan and Akshay, but I still wanted to offer the film to him. So, I met Akshay and offered him the film. He did reconsider the offer, but things did not work out. Then I offered the film to Varun Dhawan, but he was busy with too many films. The other person I was very keen to cast was Kapil Sharma. I felt he’d pull off the character very well. But that didn’t work out either.”

Aamir is currently busy with Laal Singh Chaddha and Mogul will start rolling after that film. Looks like Mogul will hit the screens in 2021.

Chetan Bhagat says fame in Bollywood can take a serious toll on mental health. The bestselling author, whose novels like 3 Idiots and Kai Po Che! became major films, explained that many actors and directors struggle when their work doesn’t succeed. “There are actors who, when going to a restaurant, if they aren’t recognised, don’t enjoy the meal. They wonder, ‘No one came to click photos?’ Can you imagine what a sick life that is?” he said.

Bhagat added that the pressure of attention and constant public scrutiny can worsen insecurity. He recalled seeing stars fade over time, their mental health affected by the highs and lows of fame.
