20 years of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

The 90s classic which defined love and friendship was a blockbuster movie. It released on 16 October 1998 and it was Karan Johar’s debut in Bollywood as a director. Karan is celebrating 20 years of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in Mumbai today (16 October, 2018). He uploaded a picture on Instagram with a caption saying “Can’t believe it’s been #20yearsofKKHH! A film that gave me love , acceptance and a career….will always be eternally grateful to @iamsrk @kajol #rani @beingsalmankhan for indulging a 25 year old boy with stars in his eyes!!! Thank you for all the love…….❤️❤️❤️”

KKHH didn’t only give India the famous pair of Shah Rukh and Kajol but also introduced Rani to wider audiences. It was Rani’s third movie. Kajol received Filmfare Best Actress Award and Zee Cine Best Actor – Female Award as well Shah Rukh Khan won Filmfare Best Actor Award and Zee Cine Best Actor – Male Award. The supporting actor and actress Salman Khan and Rani Mukerji also won awards for Filmfare Best Supporting Actor and Actress Awards.

While they were shooting for the song “Yeh Ladki Hai Deewana”, Kajol lost control of her bike and fell on her face, and was unconscious for some time and had temporarily memory loss. Kajol was only able to remember her then-boyfriend and now-husband Ajay Devgn.

Aman’s role was offered to Saif Ali Khan first but later rejected the role. Then Salman Khan offered to take the role when he met Karan at a party. Also Tina’s role was originally for Twinkle Khanna, where this character’s name came from, which Twinkle rejected. Karan was surprised seeing how short Rani is, when he went to her house for the movie after the role was offered to few other leading actresses.

Fashion designer Manish Malhotra, director Nikhil Advani, choreographers Farah Khan and Geeta Kapoor, including Karan Johar’s mum Hiroo Johar are all seen in the movie in different shots.
