Super Fan of the week - Vivian Dsena

Dedicated fans have helped elevate Vivian Dsena to a superstar status and led him to land some impressive achievements including being declared the sexist Indian man in the world. One of them is Sye from San Jose, USA. Eastern Eye caught up with Sye to find out more.

What first connected you to Vivian Dsena?

I wasn’t into TV serials, so didn’t know about Vivian. My first connection to him was serendipitous. I accidentally got a text from an unknown number with Vivian’s picture. At that time in my life, I was in a dark place and had lost hope. But there was something in his eyes when I saw that photo. He gave me hope that life could be better. Since I didn’t know his name or nationality, I searched on the web and after a few weeks, I saw him on Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani, and have been connected since then.

What made you become a super fan?

I haven’t done anything extraordinary for him. From the moment I saw him and got to know more, there was no looking back. He inspires me and his positive attitude towards life guides me to make better choices. I’m a proud fan.

Tell us about something super you have done for Vivian?

I follow his advice by practising every day to be a better version of myself. I religiously plant a tree every year on his birthday as he supports environmental causes. I’ve gone paperless with my utility bills, recycle and also walk or bike whenever possible to reduce my carbon footprint. I voted for him last year for 48 hours continuously with my friends. I learned Hindi because of him. I was averse to social media, but joined all platforms to stay connected with him.

What has been your most memorable moment?

I was sick for a long time last year. I got back from hospital, feeling very low, opened Instagram and saw a photo of him wearing the shirt I gifted him for his birthday. The shirt was very colourful and not his style, but he wore it to honour a fan’s feelings.

What do you most love about Vivian?

Vivian gives back to society through causes he is passionate about. He supports environmental causes, promotes children’s education and plays soccer to raise money for underprivileged kids. He is a role model to youngsters and encourages them to follow their hearts. He buys local products to promote small businesses.

What is your favourite work of his?

I admire all his charity work. Professionally, I love all his characters, but to pick one, it is RK from the series Madhubala. It’s the most challenging character he has portrayed, but I strongly feel his best is yet to come.

Why do you love being a super fan?

I don’t consider myself a super fan. As to ‘why,’ all I can think of is his own words: “Yeh ladki pagal hai” (This girl’s crazy). I’m crazy about him. There’s no better way to put it.
