Shree Swaminarayan temple in Kingsbury celebrates fifth anniversary

THOUSANDS of people lined the streets of Kingsbury in north London last Saturday (24) to witness the fifth anniversary celebrations of the Maninagar Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan Shree Swaminarayan Mandir.

Celebrations were led by global spiritual leader Acharya Swamishree Maharaj, leader of the Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, and they kicked off with a grand parade that featured dancers, floats and musicians.

They were guided by the temple’s Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Pipe Band.

Guests included the Queen’s Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Greater London, Simon Ovens DL FCM, Labour MP Barry Gardiner and leader of Brent council Mohammed Butt.

Widely regarded as the world’s first eco-temple, the Shree Swaminarayan Mandir in Kingsbury opened its doors to the public in 2014 and it aims to inspire the community to live greener.

The temple also offers a range of sporting, educational and charitable activities.

St Luke's Hospice in Kenton is one of the charity partners the temple supports. To date, the temple has raised £60,000 for the hospice, including £10,000 this year, for which a cheque was presented to the hospice by Acharya Swamishree Maharaj.

Pope Leo says 'I have no fear' of Trump en route to Algeria

  • Trump called Pope Leo "WEAK on Crime" and "terrible for Foreign Policy" on social media.
  • Pope said he has "no fear" of Trump administration and will keep speaking out against war.

Pope Leo XIV landed in Algeria on Monday for the first ever papal visit to the Muslim-majority country, but the trip was immediately overshadowed by an extraordinary public row with US president Donald Trump.
Just hours before Leo left Rome, Trump posted a lengthy attack on Truth Social, calling the pontiff "WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy" and telling reporters: "I'm not a fan of Pope Leo."

The feud stems from Leo's growing criticism of the US-Israeli war with Iran. At an evening prayer vigil in St Peter's Basilica on Saturday, the same day US and Iranian delegations began face-to-face ceasefire talks in Pakistan, the pope said a "delusion of omnipotence" was fuelling global conflict and called on world leaders to sit at the table of dialogue rather than plan rearmament.

Trump took the remarks personally, saying the pope "thinks it's ok for Iran to have a nuclear weapon," a claim Leo never made.
