Pregnant Pakistani singer shot dead for refusing to stand while singing

A Pakistan singer who was six months pregnant was shot dead by an inebriated person for refusing to stand up while singing at a ceremony.

The video of the incident that took place earlier this week is currently doing the rounds on social media and it shows people tossing money at her, and as soon as she stands up she is shot dead.

The video clip, which surfaced on the Twitter handle  which appeared on a Pakistani news portal, was shared on Twitter by Kapil Dev, an Islamabad-based human rights activist.

The incident took place on Tuesday in Larkana district of Pakistan.

The accused, identified as Tarique Ahmed Jatoi, reportedly asked 24-year-old singer Samina Samoon, also known as Samina Sindhu, to stand up while performing. She refused initially, but as soon as she complied with his request, Jatoi shot her dead.

Samina was immediately rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead. The accused and two of his companions have been arrested.

The singer's husband wants a case of double murder filed against Jatoi, as Samina was pregnant with their child. According to Dev, the Jatois are now pressurising Samina's husband to withdraw the case.
