Oxford set to welcome its first Hindu temple

Oxford City Council has granted approval for the plans to convert the changing rooms of a derelict sports pavilion into Oxford's first Hindu temple.

The project, known as the Oxford Hindu Temple Project, will transform the football changing rooms located at Court Place Farm in Marston, the BBC reported.

The approval of the plans is part of the project's lease agreement with the city council for the building.

The proposed renovation includes the creation of two halls within the premises.

One hall will serve as a place of worship, while the other will be designated for community gatherings.

The group has been renting a room at a community centre.

Dr Gian Gopal, the founding chairman of the Oxford Hindu Temple Project, expressed immense pride at this significant milestone and looked forward to establishing a welcoming hub at Court Place Farm.

The project had been in search of a suitable building for the temple for 15 years.

After unsuccessful attempts at securing other venues, they approached the council for assistance in finding a suitable site.

Councillor Linda Smith, the cabinet member for housing, commended the newly approved plans, noting that they would make excellent use of the site by creating not only Oxfordshire's sole Hindu Temple but also a community hub that would offer activities to the wider public.
