Nushrat Bharucha: It is definitely challenging to essay an anti-hero character

Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety has soared high at the box office. The film, which stars Nushrat Bharucha, Kartik Aaryan and Sunny Singh in the lead roles, crossed Rs 100 crore worldwide recently. Talking about the box office success of the film, actress Nushrat Bharucha said to a leading Indian daily, "Personally, to me, this film’s performance signifies much more than just box office success. As an actor, I strive for my work to get noticed and with this film, I can confidently say that people have gone to the theatres in large numbers, loved the film and also loved my work in it."

Nushrat was previously seen in Luv Ranjan’s Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011), Akaash Vani (2013) and Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015). Talking about the same, she said, "Luv sir stood by us through it all, believed in us against all odds. Success changes a lot of things and luckily, each film of ours has been a bigger success than the previous one. But it’s not always been great; we’ve also had long phases of not doing anything at all. However, we stuck together through thick and thin. For me, this success is far more meaningful because I get to share it with this team. I am today, what they believed me to be. Hopefully, and audience willing, you’ll see us do a lot more work together and even with others."

Speaking about her character in Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, she said, "It is definitely challenging to essay an anti-hero character, but I am elated with the audience’s feedback. It is a brave and risky move and it feels extremely rewarding now. If anything, Sweety has given me the confidence that I can play any character now. This success has left me wanting to do more and to be seen more. Audience’s love is addictive. I would do anything to stay loved by them."

Chetan Bhagat says fame in Bollywood can take a serious toll on mental health. The bestselling author, whose novels like 3 Idiots and Kai Po Che! became major films, explained that many actors and directors struggle when their work doesn’t succeed. “There are actors who, when going to a restaurant, if they aren’t recognised, don’t enjoy the meal. They wonder, ‘No one came to click photos?’ Can you imagine what a sick life that is?” he said.

Bhagat added that the pressure of attention and constant public scrutiny can worsen insecurity. He recalled seeing stars fade over time, their mental health affected by the highs and lows of fame.
