Munna Bhai 3 expected to start rolling by year-end, says Arshad Warsi

Bollywood has produced countless franchises in the past two decades, but when it comes to choosing one of the best film franchises ever produced in the Hindi film industry, chances are high that many cinephiles would vote for the Rajkumar Hirani-directed Munna Bhai series.

The Munna Bhai franchise began with the release of Munna Bhai M.B.B.S in 2003. The second instalment of the franchise, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, came in 2006. So, the popular series has seen two instalments to date and the third instalment will begin production soon.

Actor Arshad Warsi, who plays the iconic character of Circuit in the franchise, has confirmed the same. “I do know that the script is pretty much ready. I do know from Rajkumar Hirani that the film will go on floors this year - either mid or the end of the year. The work on the script is going on. As of now, yes it is Sanjay Dutt and me. These are the things I have been told,” Arshad told PTI.

Talking about the third part of the franchise, Arshad said, “I tend to do my film and forget about my character and I move on to the next one. I tend to forget, which is what happened with Munna Bhai. When I came for the second part, I was doing the same role differently. I realised something isn't quite right. Then Rajkumar Hirani and I saw a couple of scenes from the first one and remembered how I should be doing. This time too, I'm sure I'll do it.”

Meanwhile, Arshad Warsi is busy promoting his upcoming release, Fraud Saiyaan. Helmed by Sourabh Shrivastava, the movie also stars Sara Loren and Flora Saini in lead roles and is set to hit screens on 18th January.

Highlights:

  • YouTube wins exclusive global rights to stream the Oscars from 2029
  • ABC era ends after more than 60 years as viewing moves off US broadcast TV
  • The YouTube Oscars deal runs from 2029 to 2033, starting with the 101st ceremony
  • Ceremony, red carpet and Academy events will stream free to a global audience
  • The move follows a long slide in TV ratings and a push for younger online viewers

YouTube Oscars streaming rights are now confirmed, and the Academy has ended a major chapter in broadcast television. The awards, long tied to ABC in the United States, will move to a full streaming model from 2029. The announcement landed on Wednesday from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which said the YouTube agreement covers the 101st Oscars through to 2033.

ABC keeps the show until 2028. After that, viewers worldwide will be able to watch live and free on YouTube, while US subscribers can also access the YouTube TV feed. The Academy did not reveal financial terms. Still, the change marks one of the biggest shifts yet as film awards chase younger, digital-first viewers.
