Leicester man jailed for sexual assault

A LEICESTER man has been jailed for sexual abuse.

Zahid Ahmed, 44, abused the girl on various occasions during the period between 2007 and 2014 when she entered her teenage.

Following a trial at Leicester Crown Court on Friday (14), Ahmed, of Rowsley Avenue, Leicester, was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual activity.

He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.

The assault came into light in 2018, when the victim told her family about the abuse she had faced.

The matter was then reported to the police and an investigation began, led by the Child Abuse Investigation Unit (CAIU).

Detective Constable Anna Blockley said: “The abuse began not long after the victim first met Ahmed. He began touching her inappropriately – and continued to do so over a number of years.

“At first, she didn’t think anything of it as she was just a child, but over time she began to realise what he was doing. When she was a teenager, she managed to distance herself from Ahmed and the abuse stopped.”

Meanwhile, Ahmed was found not guilty of three counts of sexual activity and two counts of sexual assault.
