Khushali Kumar to romance R. Madhavan in her debut film Dahi Cheeni

Rumours were rife lately that T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar was planning to launch her sister Khushali Kumar as an actress. Today, all rumours turned out to be true when T-Series Films finally announced the project along with its title and the male lead. The young and gorgeous Khushali Kumar is set to enter the glitzy world of entertainment with her debut film titled Dahi Cheeni. It is quirky slice-of-life human drama which features immensely talented R. Madhavan as the male lead.

If you thought that Khushali Kumar bagged the part easily just because the movie is being bankrolled by her brother, then think again. She had to audition for the role just like any other aspiring actor.

Dahi Cheeni will be directed by debutant filmmaker Ashwin Neal Mani, who has previously assisted seasoned filmmaker Mani Ratnam on several successful films. The movie is scheduled to hit the shooting floor in the month of August this year.

Speaking about her debut film, Khushali said in a statement, "Like any other artist I am very excited for my first film. I have worked really very hard for this prep. Right from auditions to the prep, it's been a journey. I am so kicked to start the first schedule very soon. And it’s scary to stand next to Maddy but I have made up my mind and am ready to go at it full throttle”

Debutant director Ashwin Neal Mani said, “It is my debut film, so I was a bit finicky about each and every detail and the actors were my biggest concern. Then I met Khushali and in due time she proved to me that no one else could do a better job. I saw her living the character that I essayed and today after 8 months I am overjoyed to say that she is the perfect leading lady for the film.”

Dahi Cheeni rolls in August.

  • Says he ignored what he viewed as propaganda lines and concentrated on the filmmaking
  • Compares the film to Hollywood war dramas often criticised for political messaging

Kashyap’s review singles out craft over ideology

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has added his voice to the praise for Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller Dhurandhar, saying he admired the film even though he did not agree with all of its political messaging. Writing on Letterboxd, Kashyap said he chose to look past what he felt were a couple of propaganda-heavy moments and instead focus on the quality of the filmmaking.

He noted that hostility towards an enemy state is often built into the genre itself, adding that he had no issue with that aspect. However, he pointed to two specific dialogues that troubled him, saying that setting them aside allowed the film to work strongly on its own terms. He described Dhurandhar as a good, and ultimately brilliant, film largely set in Pakistan.
