Kalpana Chawla biopic faces fresh trouble

Filmmaker Priya Mishra, who has been working on a film based on the life of the first Indian woman astronaut in space, Kalpana Chawla, for many years now, has new issues to face. Reportedly, the much-awaited project, which was supposed to star Priyanka Chopra in the lead role, might be shelved as Jean-Pierre Harrison, the husband of the late astronaut, has refused to give away the rights.

An Indian daily quotes a source as saying, “After Kalpana’s demise, all rights associated with her estate are said to have been transferred to Harrison and no one else besides him can give the permission to make the film. Even though Priya may have got the go-ahead from Kalpana’s father, it seems that alone may not be enough to make the biopic. Priyanka’s team has tried to acquire the said rights from Harrison, but apparently, he hasn’t agreed to grant them yet.”

The project, as we all know, is very close to Mishra, and she has spent many years of her life researching on it in detail. We hope she gets a go-ahead from Harrison soon.

Talking about Priyanka Chopra, the actress is all psyched up about reuniting with superstar Salman Khan after 10 years in Bharat. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the movie is slated to arrive in cinemas on Eid next year.

  • The US Department of Justice has approved Paramount Skydance's £82.8bn ($111bn) takeover of Warner Bros Discovery.
  • The merger would unite major brands including CNN, HBO, CBS, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon.
  • State regulators, UK watchdogs and industry critics are still scrutinising the deal.

The proposed Paramount Skydance-Warner Bros Discovery merger has moved a step closer to reality after receiving approval from the US Department of Justice, clearing one of the biggest regulatory hurdles facing the £82.8bn ($111bn) deal.

The Paramount-Warner Bros merger, one of the largest media industry deals in recent years, would reshape the entertainment landscape by bringing together some of the world's best-known television networks, film studios and streaming businesses under a single corporate umbrella. However, despite the federal approval, the transaction remains under scrutiny in multiple jurisdictions and could still face legal challenges before it is completed.
