Juhi Chawla cannot wait to resume shooting for her next Sharmaji Namkeen

Juhi Chawla, who was last seen in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (2019), is currently at home, enjoying her free time amid the Coronavirus lockdown. The seasoned actress hopes that things return to normalcy soon and she faces the camera again.

For the uninitiated, Juhi Chawla next stars in a film called Sharmaji Namkeen. The project is yet to be officially announced, but the majority of its shooting has completed. It will reunite Juhi with actor Rishi Kapoor, with whom she has done several films in the 90s.


Though the actress chooses to remain mum on the plotline of the film, she reveals that a renowned female filmmaker has directed it. The actress adds that the fate of Sharmaji Namkeen depends on when the pandemic ends.

“A little bit of shooting still remains. The film is to complete its post-production work as well,” informs Chawla.

The actress goes on to reveal that a South Indian filmmaker had approached her last year, but she could not do the film because of date issues. “Earlier last year, a South director named Ajayan, residing in New York, had approached me for a film. The story of this film is very metro-driven, but owing to my date issues, I had backed out of that project. But yes, now since things seem to be going at its pace, I think I can take that conversation ahead,” she says in conclusion.

Apart from Sharmaji Namkeen, Juhi Chawla will also be seen in an upcoming webseries. The details of the web-show are currently under wraps.

Sweetmeats, a new play examining diabetes in south Asian communities, will have its world premiere at London’s Bush Theatre from 7 February 2026. Written by Karim Khan and directed by Tara Theatre’s Natasha Kathi-Chandra, the production follows Hema and Liaquat, two elders brought together on a diabetes support course. The play highlights both the health risks faced by south Asians and the rarely told stories of older characters on the British stage.
