I never wanted to do a biopic, reveals R Balki

2018 is here and the countdown to Akshay Kumar's keenly awaited film, Pad Man, has just begun. Directed by noted filmmaker R Balki, Pad Man is going to be the first major release of 2018, therefore a lot of expectations are pinned on the movie.

This is the first time when R Balki, who is known for directing fictional stories, has helmed a biopic. Talking about the same, he revealed to PTI, “I never wanted to do a biopic. I wanted to do my own fictional stories, but this subject was great. This guy’s life is fascinating. Where will you get to do a mass mainstream film on a subject like sanitary pads? I felt it was a fantastic opportunity, that’s why I took it up”.

The film sees megastar Akshay Kumar in the role of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu, who created a low-cost sanitary napkins machine.

Balki says that while writing an entertaining film on a real-life issue, it is important to ensure that the sensitivity of the whole issue is not lost. “We wrote it for Akshay (Kumar), he is a star but you have to write things keeping in mind the character as well. We had to make sure the sensitive issue should not be lost," he added.

Besides Akshay Kumar, Pad Man also stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor. The film is slated to hit screens on 26th January 2018.

The real reason Kurt Sutter was excluded from Charlie Hunnam’s biker drama ‘Sons of Anarchy’

Highlights

  • Kurt Sutter says he has no involvement in Charlie Hunnam’s Legends.
  • Hunnam approached him while pitching the project and asked for his blessing.
  • The new FX limited series brings several Sons of Anarchy stars together as themselves.

For Sons of Anarchy fans, Charlie Hunnam bringing much of the old gang back together for Legends naturally raises one question: where is Kurt Sutter?

Sutter created the original FX biker drama, served as its showrunner and executive producer, and helped build the world that turned Jax Teller and the Sons into television icons. Yet he has no creative role in Legends. According to Sutter, however, that is not the result of a falling-out with Hunnam or FX. It is because the new series belongs to a different idea entirely.
