BOLLYWOOD superstar Shah Rukh Khan has dedicated fan clubs all over the world including one in Australia, which is run by head admin Priya Sharma, who is based in Perth. She has help from members in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and the Gold Coast who contribute to the team. Eastern Eye caught up with them to find out more.

What made you set up the fan club?

Our fan club is called SRK Universe Australia. We originally started in 2013 following Shah Rukh Khan’s visit to Australia for the Temptation Reloaded concert tour. It was a way to spread news on SRK in Australia. A couple of months later SRK Universe was launched.

Tell us about your fan club.

We aim to bring together Shah Rukh Khan fans from all over Australia and promote his films. We hold first day first show movie meet ups, collaborate with film distributors and hold contests where fans can win SRK film merchandise. We showcase fan talent, spread news about all things SRK in Australia and conduct projects such as videos and books, where fans send in their good wishes.

What has been your most memorable moment?

Our memorable moments include seeing SRK live at the Temptation Reloaded Australian tour and meeting him with fellow team members after the show. Also being part of the official lyric video for the song Safar from SRK’s film Jab Harry Met Sejal and receiving a Tweet from SRK after he saw our photos of fans at Raees screenings across Australia.

What is the thing you like best about Shah Rukh Khan?

His films. Shah Rukh Khan is the king of Bollywood. He has tremendous talent and an incredible filmography. He also loves and appreciates his fans.

What is your favourite work Shah Rukh Khan has done?

My Name is Khan was a moving and thought provoking film and SRK’s performance as a man with Asperger’s syndrome was absolutely brilliant.

Tell us an interesting fact about Shah Rukh.

SRK does a lot of charity work and is consistently on the world’s highest paid actors list. He has had 226 nominations across popular Bollywood awards and won 207 of them. He has won the best actor award 29 times.

What is your definition of a true fan?

A true fan stands by their favourite celebrity through good and bad times, and provides unconditional love and support.

Zhang Yiyang, a 33-year-old Chinese singer and television actor, was executed by firing squad in December 2024 after being convicted of the brutal murder of his 16-year-old girlfriend. The Xianyang Intermediate People’s Court in Shaanxi province confirmed the execution, making Zhang the first known figure from China’s entertainment industry to receive the death penalty.

The crime, which occurred in February 2022, involved a premeditated attack that left the nation stunned. The court found Zhang guilty of luring the teenager, identified only by her surname Zhang, to a secluded forest in Xingping City under the pretext of celebrating his birthday. There, following an argument, he fatally stabbed her in the neck with a folding knife.
