The family of Bolton doctor Jyothis Manalayil, who died in a collision in Larbreck on June 10, has said that it suspects involvement of a third party in the fatal accident.
Malalayil, 28, was travelling alone in his car from Lancaster Royal Infirmary Hospital to Royal Victoria Hospital, after a night shift, when his Kia Ceed car collided with a Range Rover.
An inquest into the death was opened on September 23 at Blackpool Town Hall.
Senior Coroner Alan Wilson has said that the young doctor's family had raised concerns about the collision.
"The family had raised concerns that there could be some third-party involvement and that the circumstances surrounding Jyo's death may have been suspicious," Wilson was quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.
"We can't speculate and we need evidence to support any suggestion there has been any third-party involvement that may have caused his death. If the family has any evidence to support or suggest someone else was involved or that there may have been something the court hasn't looked at then the family need to let us know. Now would be the time for the family to provide anything but we can't make conclusions based on speculation."
According to a eye-witness, the doctor's car crossed over into the other carriageway before he crashed into the Range Rover.
The healthcare professional suffered a catastrophic haemorrhage caused by blunt trauma to the chest following the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Born in Dubai, Manalayil was the eldest son of Jojappan and Jessy from Kerala, India. They were active members of Liverpool Our Lady Queen of Peace church and the city's Malayali Association.
Earlier, his family described the doctor as a loving son to his mom and dad and an angel guardian to his younger brother. His colleagues remembered him as an ‘incredibly hard-working’ and a caring person.
A final inquest will take place on October 13 at Blackpool Town Hall, officials said.
