England suspends Robinson for historic racist, sexist posts

ENGLAND fast bowler Ollie Robinson has been suspended from "all international cricket" after historical racist and sexist tweets came to light earlier this week when he made his Test debut against New Zealand, the country's cricket board (ECB) said on Sunday (6).

Robinson, 27, was the pick of England's bowlers in the drawn Test with seven wickets in the match and had released a statement on Wednesday (2) apologising for his "thoughtless and irresponsible" tweets.

"England and Sussex bowler Ollie Robinson has been suspended from all international cricket pending the outcome of a disciplinary investigation following historic tweets he posted in 2012 and 2013," the ECB said in a statement.

"He will not be available for selection for the second Test against New Zealand starting at Edgbaston on Thursday 10 June. Robinson will leave the England camp immediately and return to his county."

IMF cuts global growth outlook as oil shock from Middle East war raises recession risks

  • IMF lowers global growth forecast to 3.1 per cent from 3.3 per cent.
  • Severe scenario could see growth fall below 2 per cent, near recession levels.
  • Oil shock and supply disruption driving inflation and economic uncertainty.

The International Monetary Fund has lowered its global growth forecast, warning that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the resulting oil shock could push the world economy closer to a downturn if disruptions continue.

In its latest World Economic Outlook, the IMF now expects global GDP to grow by 3.1 per cent this year, down from its earlier estimate of 3.3 per cent. The revision reflects rising energy prices and uncertainty following the US-Israeli attack on Iran that began on February 28.
