‘#DontSayBhangi’ campaign by the makers of Article 15 gets a great response

Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15 starring Ayushmann Khurrana talks about the discrimination faced by the lower caste people in our country. The film has received amazing reviews and it will be hitting the screens tomorrow. The makers have promoted the film quite well especially on the social media and one of the campaigns ‘#DontSayBhangi’ has received a very good response.

On Change.org, the makers started a petition against the use of the word ‘Bhangi’. The petition has been signed by more than 130k people as opposed to the initial target of 100k. Ayushmann Khurrana, Anubhav Sinha and the whole team of Article 15 believed that the word ‘Bhangi’ is abuse to people from the lower caste.

Article 15 of the Indian Constitution prohibits discrimination on the basis of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them. The response to this petition proves that people are ready for a change in the country. A few days ago, Ayushmann had tagged Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar and Aparshakti Khurrana to sign the ‘#DontSayBhangi’ petition.

Recently, while talking to a daily, Ayushmann spoke about why it is important to have movies like Article 15. He said, “If a message like this can be given through mainstream cinema, it can get more reach. This film needs to go to those people who believe in caste-based discrimination. Till the time this film doesn’t reach these places, the aspiration of the film won’t be met. Anubhav sir had said something very important to me while we were filming. He had said that we should make sure that this film is shown in every small village of India because before this we have not initiated a discussion on this topic so openly.”

Article 15 also stars Isha Talwar, M Nassar, Manoj Pahwa, Sayani Gupta, Kumud Mishra, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. It is produced by Anubhav Sinha and Zee Studios.
