De De Pyaar De movie review: It's a refreshing, glamorous and entertaining rom-com

Actors in their 40s and 50s romancing actresses in their 20s is nothing new in Bollywood. It's a trend that we have been seeing on the big screen from the past many years. In De De Pyaar De also Ajay Devgn is seen romancing a young actress, Rakul Preet Singh, but still, the film stands out and the reason behind it is that here Ajay has accepted his age in the film and has happily spotted a look where he looks like a 50-year-old and not trying to be a 30-year-old.

Akiv Ali's directorial debut De De Pyaar De offers what it promised with its promos and songs. There's a man in his 50s juggling between his girlfriend and the wife he has been separated for nearly 15 years. The movie has the perfect dose of romance, comedy, and emotions, and most importantly it doesn't have a dull moment that would bore you.

There are two actresses in the film, Rakul Preet Singh and Tabu, and Ajay's chemistry with both of them is impressive. Performance wise it is Tabu who steals the show. Her character in the film comes towards the end of the first half and from there the movie goes to another level. Rakul Preet Singh in a scene in the film claims that she looks hot, and we 100 percent agree with her. She has also acted very well. Ajay Devgn is as usual at his best, but here the two actresses take the cake. Jimmy Sheirgill makes us laugh whenever he comes on the big screen and Sunny Singh in his cameo leaves a mark.

Coming to music in the film, it is decent. The end credit song Hauli Hauli impresses us the most. By the way, we get to hear 2 lines of Raah Mein Unse from Vijaypath in the film and it is such a nostalgia.

Overall, De De Pyaar De is refreshing rom-com that surely deserves a watch.

Yash says Ravana in Ramayana must connect with Western viewers as film eyes global audience

Highlights

  • Yash says he humanised Ravana to help global audiences relate to the character.
  • Asura designs in the first glimpse drew criticism for looking too Western-inspired.
  • Producer Namit Malhotra compares the film's tone to Lord of the Rings and Gladiator.
Yash, who plays the demon king Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, says his portrayal was shaped by one clear goal: making the character relatable beyond Indian audiences.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, where the film was presented alongside major Hollywood releases, the actor said he worked to strip away the purely mythological reading of the role.

"I have tried to internalise the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times," Yash told Reuters.

"It is important for people to relate to him, and since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well."
